The Index of Economic Freedom has been published annually for nine years now, and while the world’s economies have been growing steadily more free, each year Hong Kong has triumphed as the freest of them all. This is a remarkable achievement, and it’s a safe bet that if you calculated the index retrospectively, Hong Kong would rank most free throughout the post-World War II era. The cornerstone of the Index is the high correlation between freedom and economic growth and prosperity, and Hong Kong is the perfect illustration.
