Hong Kong people own more mobile phones than almost anyone else in the world, according to a global telecom report. For every 100 residents in Hong Kong there are 80 mobile phones - an ownership rate beaten only by Luxembourg, which has 87, says the International

Telecommunications Union.

Taiwan equals Hong Kong in mobile ownership ranking, followed by Austria with 78.5 handsets per 100 residents, then Italy with 74.

The report also shows there are 35 personal computers for every 100 Hong Kong residents.

The Government¡¦s Assistant Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Wallace Lau, expected computer ownership to rise as computer prices fall and the number of Web sites using the Chinese language grow, making the Internet more attractive to Hong Kong people.
