Overseas companies have cited proximity to the Chinese mainland and business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region as reasons for setting up regional offices in Hong Kong.
Executive Interim Management (EIM), through a partnership with European executive search firm Egon Zehnder and Dutch consulting firm Boer & Croon, set up its first Asian operation in the SAR, providing senior executives on an interim basis to companies undergoing change and transition.
EIM・s managing partner Dominique Langlois said: :Hong Kong offers many advantages as a regional hub, not least because of its proximity to the Chinese mainland, as well as easy access to other markets in the region. Hong Kong, as a business development hub, is where intelligence and decision-making come together for the region.;
Two telecommunications and technology companies have their regional headquarters in Hong Kong for development of business in the Asia-Pacific region.
Finland-based telecommunications company Sonera SmartTrust Limited set up a wireless applications development centre at Cyberport, Hong Kong・s IT flagship with its cluster of top quality companies and professionals specializing in IT, telecommunications and multimedia industries.
SmartTrust deputy chief executive officer Anders Ingestrom said: :Mobile operators in the Asia-Pacific region will benefit from our solutions, and we believe our Hong Kong office at Cyberport is an important part of our network in the region to support them.;
US company Openwave Systems Inc has named Hong Kong its Asia-Pacific headquarters in anticipation of surging mobile Internet software demand in Greater China. With mobile phone penetration rates in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea ranking among the highest in the world, general manager Openwave Asia-Pacific Brian Plackis believes these markets would adopt new innovations and his company・s market-leading products.
