Hong Kong has an international importance disproportionate to its size, according to Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang. Speaking at an Asia Society luncheon in Hong Kong on 29 November, he said that Hong Kong plays a major role in shaping the APEC agenda. Mr Tsang also credited Hong Kong's Stuart Harbinson, Chairman of the General Council of the WTO, and chairman of the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering Claire Lo, as being important players in the global arena.

Hong Kong plays a key role as a regional broadcasting hub due to its first class telecommunications infrastructure, clear and updated regulatory framework for broadcasting, and freedom of speech, Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting Carrie Yau told guests at the opening of the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) 2001 Convention in Hong Kong.

The Walt Disney Internet Group has partnered with Hong Kong's CSL and Hutchison Telecom to deliver content to Hong Kong's mobile market. The new business, Disney Mobile, will include screensavers, wallpapers, logos, e-cards and ring tones for mobile phones.
