The Disneyland site at Penny・s Bay will be the focus of 34 consultancies and construction projects costing HK$4.68 billion (US$602 million) being awarded in the six months from October to March.

Director of Civil Engineering Dr Lau Ching-kwong said there would be many opportunities for overseas firms to participate in the works.

:We welcome overseas firms・ participation in Hong Kong projects as they may bring technology and machinery that we need but may not possess in Hong Kong. Overseas firms have been participating in many great infrastructure projects in Hong Kong and contributing to the success of these projects. We trust that these partnerships will continue.;

Major Disneyland contracts have already been awarded to three international construction firms, UK firm Maunsell Consultants Asia, US-based Earthasia and Hong Kong-listed China State Construction Engineering Corporation, which will design, build and monitor the Disneyland infrastructure at Penny・s Bay.

Announcing the awarding in October of a HK$2.08 billion (US$267 million) contract for infrastructure in Penny・s Bay for the Disneyland theme park to China State Construction Engineering Corporation, Dr Lau said this was the first of five contracts for the infrastructure development of Penny・s Bay.

He added that other Disneyland projects to be awarded by the Civil Engineering Department by March were among 154 consultancies and construction contracts planned over the next five years. The works will cost HK$16.11 billion (US$207 million) and create 6,500 jobs.
