Hong Kong a springboard for China investment

Hong Kong can act as a strategic platform for companies wishing to invest in south China・s Guangdong Province, said Trade Development Council (TDC) chairman Peter Woo. He was speaking at a lunch meeting in Guangzhou as part of a high-level business delegation on a five-day visit to the Pearl River Delta (PRD), aimed at further enhancing business-to-business cooperation. Philips selects Hong Kong as regional base

Dutch electronics giant Philips is placing its Asia-Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong to cut costs and move closer to the Chinese mainland.

Chief executive of Philips Electronics China Group Rob Westerhof said Hong Kong is an excellent place for an Asia-Pacific headquarters because the emphasis of the hi-tech electronics industry is concentrated more and more in northeast Asia, of which the mainland is increasingly becoming a larger part. Natural partners for value-added co-operation

There are enormous opportunities for cooperation between Hong Kong and the neighbouring Pearl River Delta in southern China・s Guangdong Province, according to Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang.

Concluding a four-day visit to Guangdong, Mr Tsang said the delta was full of opportunities for economic development. While it was one of the largest manufacturing centres in the world, Hong Kong was an international centre for finance, commerce and service. (full story)

A second term for Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa
