A new deal has been signed between Hong Kong and Taiwan airlines to expand passenger and cargo services between the two regions. Under the deal, Taiwan and Hong Kong agreed to each add an extra 49 passenger flights and 1,100 tonnes of cargo capacity every week, Reuters reported.

Hong Kong is to celebrate its fifth anniversary under Chinese rule on 1 July. Chief Executive Tung Chee hwa will be sworn in for a second five-year term with a cabinet of 14 ministers which he said will improve accountability to the Hong Kong public. Celebrations will include a fireworks display and a variety show starring local cultural groups.

The Hong Kong Government's flagship Science park has opened, boosted by Dutch electronic company Phillips signing up almost an entire six-storey building for research and development. The park is expected to establish Hong Kong as a regional technology hub.

Hong Kong remains the world's freest economy, according to the sixth annual Economic Freedom of the World Report. The report is published by the US-based Cato Institute, Canada's Fraser Institute and institutes from 54 other countries. Singapore was awarded second place and the US third.
