Ralph Tam of Goodhealth Worldwide sees an emerging market for Hong Kong-based health insurance services following China’s WTO entry 

 
UK-based healthcare provider Goodhealth Worldwide Ltd opened its Asian head office in Hong Kong a few years back to take advantage of opportunities in the Chinese mainland and the Asia-Pacific.

Managing director of Goodhealth Worldwide (Asia-Pacific) Ltd Ralph Tam foresees an emerging market opportunity following China's entry into the World Trade Organisation and the consequent opening of various sectors to increased foreign participation.

"The increasing numbers of foreigners heading out to work in the mainland are likely to join Goodhealth's medical insurance plan in Hong Kong before they leave," Mr Tam said.

He added that expatriates know little about conditions in the mainland and are not confident about the medical facilities and protection there.

Goodhealth sees its Hong Kong regional office playing a significant role in its global operation, and the company plans to leverage Hong Kong's regional financial hub role to develop its business among expatriates.

The company also sees Hong Kong as a stepping stone for seeking a business partner to jointly explore the mainland's medical insurance market.
