Government officials and the TDC expressed their deep regret over the treatment Hong Kong exhibitors received at the fair and said legal action was being pursued.

Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Henry Tang, said the Government and TDC is liaising with the organisers and the respective governments of the Las Vegas jewellery and Milan optometry fairs seeking their assurance that Hong Kong exhibitors' participation will not be affected.

He said controlling the spread of atypical pneumonia (also known as Sars) was the government’s top priority and that it was sharing all information with other governments and research institutes.
