| Strategic hub a 'shining example of synchronised commerce' | |||||||||
According to Ken Torok, newly appointed president for the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong's gateway location is a crucial factor for the HK$23 trillion (US$3 trillion) global supply chain corporation. "Coupled with its unique 'dual-carriage' location as the gateway to China for foreign companies, and as China's gateway to the world, Hong Kong holds a truly unrivalled role as Asia's enabler of global commerce. We believe it is this role that will propel Hong Kong forward," Mr Torok said. He was speaking at a media briefing to present UPS's vision of a new era of synchronised commerce, where the three flows of commerce - goods, information and funds - are seamlessly connected. "Hong Kong continues to be one of the most strategic hubs for UPS," Mr Torok said. "As a world-class hub for logistics and transportation, a centre of technological advancement and innovation, and as Asia's financial capital and one of the freest economies in the world, Hong Kong is living proof of UPS's vision of synchronised commerce at work, where goods, information and funds flow freely," added Torok. "The way we look at Hong Kong is that it is the shining example of synchronised commerce at work." UPS, whose fleet of aircraft is the 11th largest in the world, first entered Hong Kong in 1988 and built a solid foundation, enabling it to provide a full suite of products and technology solutions to help Hong Kong businesses succeed in global commerce. As an example of its recent initiatives, UPS launched in February this year a direct flight between Hong Kong and Clark in the Philippines. With this service, UPS says it can provide more service options for businesses and accelerate the flow of goods from Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta to the rest of Asia and the world.
