| Buyers keen to resume HK trade fair visits ( 01/05/2003 ) | |||||||||
Hong Kong's trade fair organisers are working around the clock to ensure the success of their events for exhibitors and buyers, despite the impact of Sars on international travel. Organisers, hard hit by the World Health Organisation travel advisory against Hong Kong, have been rescheduling some events, but remain confident that the impact of Sars will be short-lived and that international buyers will soon return to Hong Kong in force. "We know from our contacts that buyers are keen to get back to Hong Kong as soon as possible and we are taking all reasonable measures to ensure their visit is risk free," said Michael Duck, senior vice president of CMP Asia. "Companies based in Hong Kong are still very positive about Hong Kong as a regional business centre, and are coming up with innovative ways to keep business going with overseas customers, such as web conferencing and online trading," added Mr Duck. "And in the medium to long-term, the huge effort being made to continually disinfect and clean up all venues will be good for Hong Kong's international reputation." CMP Asia is one of the leading trade fair organisers in Asia and a provider of high-quality business information through its publications and websites Hong Kong hosts around 2,300 major events each year and is widely considered to be Asia's trade fair capital. Many are the largest in Asia and the second largest in the world. "We currently organise trade fairs in 14 cities around the world but most of our biggest and best shows are in Hong Kong. Fine facilities, fast shipments, free trade, great hotels and entertainment make Hong Kong the easiest choice of venues," said president and CEO of CMP Asia, Peter Sutton. Hong Kong's annual mega fairs - covering houseware and gifts & premium - opened on 28 April with exhibitors from 30 regions and countries demonstrating their confidence in the extensive cleansing measures being taken at the venue.
