HKIA's spacious passenger terminal and fast, efficient and clean ground transportation were some of the contributing factors in the international accolade

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) was recently selected the world's best airport for the third consecutive year by global air travellers in the largest independent survey of air passengers of its kind.

London's Skytrax Research, a supplier of research to airlines and the business travel industry, said the results of nearly 1.7 million nominations from around the world revealed that passengers liked the award-winning HKIA architecture, including its wondrous feeling of "airiness".

Referring to HKIA, Skytrax said: "The World's Best Airport title reflects the whole combination of service and product elements that a passenger experiences. This may be the cleanliness of washrooms, the attitude of security/immigration officers or a more tangible factor such as prices/selections of catering facilities."

Airport Authority chief executive officer Dr David Pang said it was gratifying for HKIA to be a repeat winner under the current difficult operating environment. "Winning the award for yet another year will now be one of our greatest challenges. The award affirms what the Airport Authority is doing continues to be popular with travellers, who are the key elements for everything we do."

The Best Airport award comes hot on the heels of another international accolade. HKIA was recently named the Cargo Airport of the Year 2003 by the UK-based air cargo trade publication Air Cargo News for the second consecutive year. Click Airport Accolade for second successive year
