| Global business leaders impressed by rapid rebound ( 22/07/2003 ) | |||||||||
Leaders of a global network of 22 Hong Kong Business Associations from 17 countries were impressed that Hong Kong is rebounding faster than expected. They were on a recent visit to gauge Hong Kong's recovery in the aftermath of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars). Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide Christopher Leu, said the message that the 33 association leaders would tell the world is "Hong Kong is recovering well and is great value for money." "I've always said Hong Kong's greatest asset is its people. Hong Kong now offers additional advantages for companies that want to do business with China," added Mr Leu. Board member of the Norway Hong Kong Association Lars-Kare Legernes said many Norwegian companies are very focused on trade with China. "We see Hong Kong definitely as a platform to China whether they be small or big companies." Executive director of the Hong Kong Association of Atlanta Gene Hanratty said he had no doubts about the dynamism of the SAR. "It seems to me every time I come here, I leave with my batteries recharged. There's no other place in Asia which has the level playing field and the infrastructure that Hong Kong has. You have the banks, financial services and other services which don't get any better than what you have." Chairman of the Belgium Hong Kong Society Piet Steel said that he applauds the signing of the recent Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). "We need to see the details but in principal we applaud the CEPA. It's good for overseas business and good for China and Hong Kong." Director of the Hong Kong Business Association in the Midwest Dawn Haghighi said that Hong Kong appears more dynamic than ever. "It seems to me it is business as usual. There's still the same sense of excitement and energy about the place. It's still the centre of Asia."
