Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Group recently opened Shangri-La  Dubai, the Group's first property outside Asia Pacific

More than 24,000 UK residents voted the Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Group the best overseas hotel group in a poll conducted by one of London's leading daily newspapers.

The Guardian-Observer Newspaper poll asked readers to rank the quality of service people received on holidays, with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts receiving top honours ahead of major hotels and hotel groups around the world.

Bernhard Haechler general manager of the recently opened Shangri-La Dubai, the Group's first property outside Asia Pacific, said the Group and the new hotel were set to "reach new heights in hospitality and service."

Shangri-La is spearheading a development drive in the region that will begin with three properties within two years with the combined openings of the Shangri-La, Dubai, the four star Traders Hotel, Dubai in late 2003 and the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Muscat, Oman, in July 2005.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Group with regional headquarters in Hong Kong currently manages 41 hotels around the Asia Pacific region.
