Japanese company Urban System Inc has teamed up with Hong Kong's City Links (Asia) Ltd to market its water purification system to the SAR and the Chinese mainland markets.

The joint venture resulted from a business matching mission organised by the Trade Development Council last year. The two OBK Missions - Ota Business Sozo Kyougikai Missions - were aimed at matching Japanese small to medium enterprises (SMEs) with Hong Kong SMEs

Urban System's president Takuhito Koshiba said although he was confident about the quality of the company's AQUAZ water purification system, he did not have the know-how to access the vast mainland market. "Hong Kong companies can help Japanese companies enter the China market because they are well-versed in the business practices and customs on the mainland and they speak the same language. Also, most Hong Kong companies are SMEs so they would understand how other SMEs work," added Mr Koshiba.

Mr Koshiba said he selected City Links (Asia) Ltd as a business partner as both companies shared similar corporate philosophy, business policies and market positioning. Both companies initially conducted a thorough research into the mainland market on the viability of marketing water purification systems. "We found there was huge business potential among the industrial and commercial facilties and opportunities were very promising."

"The combination of Urban System's advanced technology and the well-organised sales network of City Links add up to a win-win formula," added Mr Koshiba.
