Associated Merchandising Corporation (AMC), the sourcing arm of one of America's top retail giant, Target Corporation, has expanded its office in Hong Kong.
AMC's vice president (Asia) Asia Bob Chang said competitive rentals and the urgent need to increase volumes out of Hong Kong together with Hong Kong's efficient telecommunications and transportation facilities, proximity to the mainland's production base and professionalism in conducting international trade were some of the main reasons for the expansion.
"We first set up AMC office in Hong Kong in 1968 with 2,000 sq ft of space. This has now expanded to 65,000 sq ft. We are increasing direct sourcing and our expanded Hong Kong premises will allow us to handle bigger volumes. We are experiencing double-digit growth on both soft and hard goods," said Mr Chang.
He added: "Our main operational activities in Hong Kong are sourcing, production management and logistics. Hong Kong remains our regional base although we're expanding offices and staff in the mainland. Hong Kong is the eyes and ears for our overseas buyers, and has a unique position as the shop window for the mainland."
AMC is expanding in the southern China's Pearl River Delta (PRD) while in northern China it has offices in Shanghai, Tianjin and Qingdao. It is also expanding in Chonqing in inner China
AMC is one of three major apparel sourcing and product development firms serving US retailers. It spots trends, design apparel, accessories, and houseware, then arranges for their production and finally delivers the merchandise to its retail customers.
