Chicago-based hotel marketing company IndeCorp Corporation has established its Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong to manage the company's enlargement of its portfolio in the region.

IndeCorp's managing director of Summit Hotels & Resorts, Richard Lewis, outlined the reasons for selecting Hong Kong as their regional base for expansion.

"IndeCorp recognises that there are enormous opportunities to grow the business in Asia Pacific, and Hong Kong is the obvious place from which to put into place our expansion strategy. We have already expanded our sales efforts in the region and are looking to add new hotels to the portfolio."

Mike Rowse director-general of Invest Hong Kong, a government agency tasked with attracting inward investment to Hong Kong said that IndeCorp's presence would "clearly enrich the already vibrant local travel industry by adding more hotel choices for outbound travellers."

He added: "Hong Kong is one of the key travel and tourism hubs in Asia. The average hotel occupancy in 2002 was 84 per cent and we appear to be returning to those levels with a steady growth in the influx of business travellers and tourists, particularly from the Chinese mainland."

IndeCorp Corporation is the parent company of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Sterling Hotels & Resorts, and Summit Hotels & Resorts. IndeCorp, through its three hotel brands, currently has properties in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Australia. IndeCorp's hotels in Hong Kong are: The Park Lane, The Langham Hotel Hong Kong (Great Eagle) and the Harbour Plaza Hong Kong.

Together, the three IndeCorp brands offer travellers and travel professionals over 300 distinctive luxury hotels and resorts in 51 countries.
