CEO of French Connection Group Neil Williams said the Hong Kong flagship store is the stepping stone to explore opportunities in the mainland

"Hong Kong and Greater China are our key future markets and we are particularly impressed by the energy and sense of fashion here in Hong Kong," said the chairman and chief executive of French Connection Group Stephen Marks.

"We plan to open three to four additional stores in Hong Kong within the next 2 years, and we are working through our joint venture partner to explore opportunities in the mainland."

Mr Marks said the joint venture with its Hong Kong partner "is an ideal partnership in the light of our previous success with this key player in the local fashion industry."

"We have had a presence in Hong Kong for over 27 years, primarily for sourcing and manufacturing, as well as some retailing through agents.  We now feel that this is the right time to set up a dedicated store of our own."

The chief operating officer of French Connection Group Neil Williams said the flagship store will offer a whole new concept "comprising all the strong elements of the UK brand complemented by the fittings, and photo montages which make you feel that you are walking and shopping in a London street."

InvestHK's associate director-general of Investment Promotion Simon Galpin said the investment reinforces Hong Kong's reputation as Asia's leading fashion centre and style capital. "Hong Kong is a great place for retailers to build brand awareness.  With increasing tourist flows from the Mainland, local stores can showcase their products to this particular customer group.  This will make it easier for them to enter the China market."
