Japanese die-cast manufacturer Hong Kong Yamazaki Diecast recently opened its regional headquarters in the SAR citing proximity to the Chinese mainland as one of the main reasons.

Managing director Hidemoto Yamazaki said with the increasing number of its customers moving their production facilities to the Chinese mainland, it was only natural for Hong Kong Yamazaki to follow suit.

"We decided to choose Hong Kong as the location to set up an office to oversee our China production. With its proximity to the mainland, we will be able to have easy access to real-time information from China, which is crucial to our daily operations. In addition, the familiarity with business practices in China will be beneficial to our business development," said Mr Yamazaki.

"Located at the centre of East Asia, Hong Kong will become a strategic location in our sales network for the region. As an international city in Asia, Hong Kong attracts buyers from around the world, including Europe and the US. Based on our global distribution plan, we believe that Hong Kong is the best strategic location for overseeing sales activities,' he added.

The company designs and produces die made of zinc, aluminium or magnesium alloy. Its regional headquarters will serve as the sales and distribution arm for the company supporting its two factories in Huizhou and Qingdao in the mainland.

Simon Galpin associate director-general for investment promotion at Invest Hong Kong said "Yamazaki Diecast's decision to be in Hong Kong serves as an important endorsement of Hong Kong's role as a key business hub in the region."
