Matthias Schade, a German-born electrical engineer who established System-Pro Development Ltd (SPD) in 1999, says his company's team of 25 highly experienced Hong Kong and international engineers, technicians and testing specialists is the key driver responsible for developing the business.

The Hong Kong-based independent inspection and quality consulting company provides sourcing, quality control, product development, technical advice and compliance certification services that enable manufacturers in the Chinese mainland Pearl River Delta (PRD) area and Shanghai to meet stringent safety and quality regulations in Europe and Australia.

Mr Schade, who is also SPD's managing director, says that as consumers demand better quality products and governments introduce new safety and environmental laws, independent monitoring and testing of materials and production helps companies to operate more cost effectively.

SPD works mainly with international clients who manufacture toys, audio, electrical appliances and household products. "Hong Kong's super efficient communications, financial and transport systems provide the ideal platform to co-ordinate our operations in Shenzhen and Shanghai," Mr Schade says. SPD's Hong Kong headquarters supports a one-stop testing and monitoring service from the raw product stage through production to packaging and delivery.

Relevant market solutions

"Our policy is to fulfill the expectations of our customers by offering them tailor made procurement solutions, quality control, quality assurance and regulatory safety approvals that meet requirements in all relevant markets," he added. SPD was the second company in Hong Kong after the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) to be awarded the revised version of the ISO 9000 certification for performance excellence and customer orientation.

Mr Schade said the depth of professional talent available in Hong Kong had been crucial to the company's success, while its electronics trade fairs are equally important in strengthening existing business relationships and attracting new customers. "By attending Hong Kong trade fairs we have been able to promote our range of services, resulting in new contracts with major manufacturers."

He said Hong Kong's long history of manufacturing in the mainland, along with its ability to meet strict global safety and quality requirements, has helped create a talented pool of inspection and quality engineers expert in meeting international standards.

SPD director Manfred Hirning added that the company's focus on building long-term relationships ensures the client's best interests are paramount at every stage during the sourcing and production process.

Looking ahead, he said SPD plans to expand its services by monitoring feedback and the lifecycle of products, including how items are disposed of. "This is a logical step that will help our clients to implement preventive measures and better manage their environmental concerns."
