Hong Kong is an excellent communication hub for the Asia Pacific region, according to the regional head of one of the largest global telecommmunication companies.
Graham Moore, president Asia Pacific of British Telecom (BT), said he moved most of the senior management with regional responsibilities from its Asia Pacific hub in Sydney to Hong Kong one-and-half years ago. "Hong Kong is an excellent communication hub in terms of flights in and out of the region and China is at the doorstep. China is a huge potential market for our customers."
Hong Kong is now BT's Asia headquarters and service centre with 15 offices in the region. "Hong Kong is one of the top three leading hubs for corporations in the Asia Pacific and is BT's primary focus in terms of our corporate customers. BT views Hong Kong as an important and strategic location as our corporate customers use the city as a regional base," said Mr Moore.
He said that BT is growing its presence in China "to match the aspirations of our customers who were moving or had moved to China". "We have over two dozen clients in China and a number of corporations based in the region are from the US and Europe. From increasing demand in Asia Pacific and China, we'll grow 15 per cent based on year-on-year revenue but certainly we can do much more," said Mr Moore.
The three key areas for BT's future growth in the region, he said, are in management network, customer relation management services and outsourcing. "A lot of our clients from UK and Europe know our brand very well so in Asia they also use us. We have the experience and the competitive edge."
Mr Moore said Greater China plays a significant part in BT's plans in the region. "We are here for the long run and Hong Kong is a key market for our customers."
