Italian comfort footwear retailer GEOX and Mirabell International Holdings Limited jointly announced the opening of the first GEOX concept shop in Hong Kong recently.

President of GEOX Group Mario Moretti Polegato said Hong Kong is a market of strategic importance and through its new concept shop GEOX will be able to raise its brand awareness among the increasingly health conscious consumers in Asia. "Born nine years ago in Italy, GEOX is now one of the main business realities at international level. In this development, Hong Kong represents a unique opportunity both from a commercial and from a strategic point of view," said Mr Moretti Polegato

Chairman of Mirabell Footwear International William Tang said confidence in Hong Kong's retail sector continues to grow. "In Hong Kong, we see a very sophisticated group of consumers, who are also trend setters in Asia. We open the first GEOX concept shop in the prime shopping district of Tsimshatsui to serve as a showcase for our products. This will become a very important brand building exercise in Hong Kong."

Founded in the mid 1990's, the GEOX Group operates in 68 countries. It ranks eighth globally in the comfort footwear sector. The Group has recorded an annual growth of over 40 per cent since it was founded. In 2003, its turnover reached 254 million euros with production of over 6.6 million pairs of shoes.

InvestHK's associate director-general of investment promotion Simon Galpin who attended the official opening, said the rising number of international brands opening concept stores in Hong Kong "clearly shows that Hong Kong is the leading retail capital."
