| Paris transmits mobile music waves to Asia ( 01/04/2004 ) | |||||||||
Musiwave's principal products are real music ring tones made with original master recordings, and music videos for mobile phones. The content is refreshed each week with the latest local music that is easily downloadable onto users' handsets. "For young people who like to personalise their mobile phones, Musiwave provides a variety of fun, innovative functions. Mobile service providers and manufacturers incorporate our unique services to differentiate their products in the market," said Kiet Lam, managing director of Musiwave Asia. The Hong Kong office will oversee the legal procurement of local recordings for various Asian markets, and the marketing and distribution functions, while R&D will continue to take place in Europe. "Hong Kong is really the hub of Asian business. It is easy to travel to all our Asian markets from here, and more than that, it's simply a great place to live," enthused Mr. Lam. The lure of the Chinese mainland's booming consumer markets was another strong reason why Hong Kong was chosen as the base for the company's Asian operations. "It is easiest to access China from Hong Kong, and although we did consider Shanghai and other locations, Hong Kong was still the best," explained Mr. Lam. He pointed to the strengths of Hong Kong's stable currency, and its highly efficient banking system for managing the company's Asian revenue flows, as well as its broader financing needs. "As sophisticated handsets start penetrating Asian markets at affordable prices, the growth potential for our services is immense," said Mr. Lam. Musiwave currently partners with Vodafone and Orange in Europe, and SmarTone and CSL in Hong Kong. Related link | |||||||||
