Well-known Japanese fashion retailer Tokyo Style Hong Kong Co Ltd recently set up its first two overseas retail outlets in Sogo Store in Hong Kong.

Its managing director Takahisa Hirohama said he has strong confidence in Hong Kong's retail business. "We see strong market potential among a large group of consumers who demand for quality Japanese fashion. And of course, the inflow of Chinese mainland visitors with increasingly high consumption power are also our target customers."

Mr Hirohama said the decision to open two retail outlets in Hong Kong to sell its ladies' labels - 22 OCTOBRE and AYLESBURY - was due to the SAR's sophisticated retail market. "We are impressed by the unique character of the city - full of dynamism and international cultural influence. Tokyo Style simply cannot think of a better gateway to expand our retail business overseas."

The company plans to open four more shops in Hong Kong this year. Tokyo Style Co Ltd is one of the largest apparel manufacturers in Japan and has been listed in the Tokyo Stock Exchange since 1975. At present there are more than 185 "22 OCTOBRE" retail stores and over 180 "AYLESBURY" stores in Japan.

The associate director-general for investment promotion at Invest Hong Kong Simon Galpin said Tokyo Style's presence in Hong Kong consolidates the city's reputation as Asia's capital of style and fashion.
