Hong Kong trade fairs are one of the most successful ways to source new products and to explore business opportunities in the Chinese mainland
Two of Asia's leading trade fairs - Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair - are set to draw record number of buyers and exhibitors from around the world as the global economy picks up and the prime sourcing season gets underway in April. Opportunities arising from the Cepa free trade pact are also likely to attract international traders eager to explore the huge Chinese mainland market.

Added to this year's packed summer trade fair calendar are two new fairs - Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Summer Edition) in April and Summer Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware and Toys in July - to provide additional sourcing opportunities for buyers, and enabling innovative industry players to showcase their most creative products to the world.

Buoyed by last year's successful combined show of houseware and gifts held during the post Sars period in July and recording over 62,000 buyers from around the world, the organiser, the Trade Development Council (TDC) has decided to tap into a new sourcing season.

TDC exhibitions director, Benjamin Chau, said: "Given the achievements of last July, we realise that buyers have a need to source in the middle of the year. This show caters to those buyers in search of innovative models and trendy items."

Tap into China market with Cepa free trade pact and Hong Kong partners

Further impetus is provided by the Cepa free trade pact where 374 Hong Kong-made products can be exported to the Chinese mainland tariff-free. Giftware and houseware components and products are some of these tax-free products. See Cepa details (link)

"With Cepa in place, overseas companies can work with Hong Kong partners to tap into the advantages of accessing the mainland market," said Mr Chau.

Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Italian Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong, who helped organise the largest ever Italian Pavilion at the recent Hong Kong Jewellery Fair (2-5 March), agreed. "Italian companies continue to find Hong Kong absolutely relevant. The more the Chinese mainland is opening up, the more business will pass through Hong Kong. Cepa is helping this process especially from a retailing point of view with Italian companies looking for Hong Kong partners with whom to do joint ventures on the mainland."

Visiting trade fairs in Hong Kong remains one of the most successful ways to see what the mainland has to offer. The two fairs Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Gifts and Premium Fair are also strategically timed with the Guangdong Canton Fair to provide more convenience to overseas buyers.
