Kerry Logistics special events manager Lisa Ryan says the Hong Kong-based logistics provider will ensure that everything runs smoothly at the Athens Olympics

As sports fans around the world eagerly await the Olympics in Athens this August, Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics is busy behind the scenes making sure the equipment for the athletes, broadcasters and suppliers arrives on time.

Tents, kitchens, boats, cameras and horse feed are just some of the items the special events team at the company's UK subsidiary will deliver to venues in Greece.

"For many top international athletes Athens represents the pinnacle of their whole career, so it's vital everything is in place on time and working properly," explains Special Events Manager Lisa Ryan. " Similarly, with the world watching, broadcasters know their reputation is on the line."

"Our job is to provide peace of mind, to make sure everything runs smoothly and there are no unnecessary hiccups or delays."

The company has ample experience in the field, having provided logistics support for many years to high profile sporting events including the Rugby World Cup in Australia, the Commonwealth Games 2002, and the Special Olympics in Dublin last year.

This summer promises to be particularly busy with Kerry also involved in the European football Championships in Portugal in June, and China's first Formula One event, the Grand Prix in Shanghai, this September.

Kerry Logistics is one of the fastest-growing logistics providers in the Asia-Pacific. Its clients include leading multinationals in consumer electronics, fashion, sports, food and retailing. The group's global network spans 140 locations, and it operates in 32 cities in 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company has expanded as southern China has emerged as the factory of the world for light consumer goods and an increasingly affluent market for western products. Kerry is the largest warehouse owner and operator in Hong Kong, and last year opened a 43,000 square metre facility at Yantian Port in neighbouring Guangdong Province.

It embarked on expansion in Europe with the acquisition of Trident International Ltd in the UK in 2002. Trident had built a reputation as a specialist in UK /Asia-Pacific trade lanes and Britain's leading sports and events logistics providers.
