US broadband technology provider Navini Networks is setting up its regional headquarters in Hong Kong to build its network in the Asia Pacific region.

Managing director, Asia Pacific of Navini Networks, Bill Holt, said the new regional headquarters would play a key role in tapping the market potential in the region.

"We choose Hong Kong for three important reasons. First, Hong Kong's logistics system is unbeatable in the region. From here, we can easily reach our Asia Pacific customers in Australia, India, Malaysia and Japan. Secondly, we see Hong Kong as the natural gateway to the Chinese mainland, Navini's important target market."

Mr Holt added: "Thirdly, located in Hong Kong, the telecommunications hub in the region, we are in close proximity to other players in the telecoms sector. This will keep abreast of the latest technology in the trade. This is particularly important for companies in rapidly evolving industries like ours."

Headquartered in Texas, Navini Networks offers patented wide-area wireless broadband technology delivering multi-megabit speeds to customers up to eight miles from the base station.

Director general of investment promotion in InvestHK, John Rutherford, in welcoming Navini's presence, said "Hong Kong is an ideal place to customise telecom products and services to meet Chinese and other Asian market conditions and requirements."
