| Spanish fashion brand opens new store ( 01/06/2004 ) | |||||||||
Leading Spanish fashion brand ZARA recently opened a new store in Hong Kong in a show of confidence in the long-term potential of the retail market. Managing director of ZARA Asia Ltd, David Konn, said the company owned by Industria de Diseno Textil (Inditex), one of the largest fashion retail groups worldwide,was extremely upbeat about the future business development of Hong Kong. “We have found the consumers here very sophisticated and receptive to fashion, which is one of the key considerations for leading brands like ZARA in deciding where to set up business.” Mr Konn said ZARA applies the latest technology to supply reasonably priced items. The company has more than 200 designers in-house producing over 20,000 new items every year to stay on top of the latest fashion trends. “We renew our collections and ship new items for the Hong Kong store at least twice a week. All the essentials for successful sourcing are available here – a sophisticated supply chain system, quality of goods, expertise in fashion and textiles,” added Mr Konn. The new ZARA shop occupies 15,000 sq ft at the ifc Mall right in the heart of the Central shopping area with interior consistent with the latest ZARA layout worldwide. The Hong Kong store will be the first wholly owned and managed ZARA store in Asia by its parent company Inditex. The Group has a long history in sourcing in the region through Hong Kong; it set up Inditex Asia Ltd in Hong Kong seven years ago as a sourcing office. Simon Galpin, associate director-general of investment promotion at InvestHK, said Hong Kong is a great place for fashion retailers as the city has a well-developed logistics structure as well as known expertise in fashion and textiles industries. | |||||||||
