Summer fairs such as the inaugural Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware & Toys provide important sourcing oppportunities for international buyers
Business was booming at the Spring trade fairs in Hong Kong, with many satisfied customers at the Electronics, Gifts & Premium and Houseware Fairs, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), in April and May.

"My company did HK$500 million (US$64 million) worth of business at the debut Spring Electronics Fair," said chief executive officer of Skyworth Multimedia International Ltd, Henry Lau. "It was an ideal event for reaching international buyers - most of mine were from Europe, as well as South America and South East Asia. The fair should definitely continue in the future."

Following the success of these fairs, more vibrant events are to follow in the summer months. These will include Hong Kong's version of Cannes - the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART, 23 - 25 June), the Summer Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware and Toys (6-9 July) the Hong Kong Licensing Show (6-8 July), the Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer (13-16 July) and the Hong Kong Book Fair (21-26 July).

The new Summer Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware and Toys will play host to more than 1,200 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions in July. For the first time, the Hong Kong Licensing Show will also tie in with this fair. Featuring 150 brand names and properties, the fair will run from 6-8 July.

"Judging by the industry's keen response, we expect this show to have a very high growth potential," said Benjamin Chau, TDC's director, exhibitions. "TDC is busy working with overseas offices to bring more international buyers in. We are expecting a big success."

Taiwan will represent the third largest group participation following Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, with over 130 exhibitors.

"July sets a new sourcing season and manufacturers can ride on the accelerated momentum provided by TDC's April Gifts & Premium Fair. They can continue to promote new products for buyers in the summer, which is an important sourcing time," said Phillip Lee, chairman of the Taiwan Gifts & Houseware Association.

Other participants are coming from Canada, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam.
