IKEA opens its 80,000 sq ft store in Kowloon amidst a sustained revival of domestic consumption
Swedish furniture giant IKEA has opened an 80,000 sq ft store in Kowloon, its fifth and largest furnishing store in Hong Kong since it started in the city in 1975.

Spread over three storeys, it has given the concept 'shop till you drop' a new meaning. It has 34 room sets offering ideas and inspiration and a choice of more than 6,000 pieces of furniture and accessories.

IKEA like many international brands are either expanding or opening flagship stores in Hong Kong to capitalise on strong retail sales which have surged for the 11th straight month in June on the continued influx of tourists from the Chinese mainland and a sustained revival of domestic consumption.

IKEA is one of the market leaders in home furnishings and lifestyle products in a city  defined by lack of space and small apartments. With its competitively priced DIY concept, one can easily pick up a table or a chair and assemble it yourself.

IKEA (Hong Kong) is owned by the Dairy Farm Company which acquired the franchise from Jardine Pacific in 2002.
