| New summer buying season attracts thousands ( 01/08/2004 ) | |||||||||
July is traditionally seen as a slow season for trade fairs, but the inaugural Summer Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware and Toys, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), attracted 1,316 exhibitors and more than 33,000 buyers. "Buyers are compelled to source more frequently, due to shorter product life cycles and smaller inventories," said TDC Council Member Christopher Cheng. "With Hong Kong's efficient production and excellent logistics, buyers can now place orders in July for delivery in time for Christmas." "It is excellent for companies to have new sourcing opportunities at this time of the year," said Mr Otto Umbach, managing director of German toy company idee& spiel. "I'm a regular visitor to Hong Kong and keep up to date with market trends. I found some new items at the April Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair, and now I was able to come back in July to place the orders!"
The Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2005 was also a big success, attracting 760 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions. Marion van Hout-Slaats and a delegation of three from Brova Group of Companies in Netherlands had a very successful buying session at the Fashion Week. They were on the lookout for new suppliers for their private labels and found the exhibits "good and interesting". They have placed a trail order of 5,000 pieces with a Hong Kong company and are in negotiation with six other Hong Kong firms. On behalf of buying association, Intres, they have also acquired a complete line of children wear with another Hong Kong manufacturer. Following the success of these summer fairs, more vibrant events are coming in the second half of the year. These will include the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, Asia's leading trade show of its kind and the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn edition). Riding on the success of its spring edition launched in April this year, the autumn edition of the Electronics Fair will feature over 2,000 exhibitors from around the world.
