Overall visitor attendance jumped nearly 39% in 2004. The Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair which kicks off the 2005 trade fair calendar is expected to be bigger and better
Hong Kong's role as a global sourcing hub is stronger than ever with robust figures and record breaking attendance at this year's trade fairs.

Overall visitor attendance at the exhibitions organised by the Trade Development Council (TDC) jumped nearly 39 per cent compared to 2003 with the largest number of buyers coming from the Chinese mainland, US, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Australia.

TDC senior manager of exhibitions Anne Chick explains: "A fair's success is based on the size of the fair, quality of exhibits, services provided, its international profile and market intelligence. TDC has been able to deliver in all these aspects and hence the fairs have all been growing."

Top TDC organised fairs in terms of visitor numbers this year include Gifts & Premium Fair, Summer Sourcing Show, eAsia and the Spring and Autumn editions of the Electronics Fair. In fact, the buyer figure at this year's autumn edition of the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (13-16 October) was a record high in the history of the fair attracting more than 53,000 buyers, an increase of nearly 12 per cent over last year. (Details in Record number of visitors attended HK Electronics Fair).

Best platform into mainland market

Ms Chick says that since the global economy has been on the rise compared with 2003, it is only natural that more buyers visit Hong Kong trade fairs for sourcing. "In addition, TDC organised fairs have a reputation for being well established, we have the critical mass and most of them are Asia's largest fairs of their kind. Most overseas companies also regard Hong Kong as the best platform to tap into the Chinese mainland market."

Ms Chick expects 2005 to be a better year. Indeed, two of Asia's largest sourcing fairs  - Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair and  Electronics Fair - are set to be bigger and better when TDC rents the Tamar site next to the Convention and Exhibition Centre as a temporary venue twice a year. (Details in Tamar site to bring new opportunity for Hong Kong SMEs).

Following the success of the 2004 fairs, more vibrant events are scheduled for 2005. Kicking off the new year is the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair - the second largest in the world and Asia' biggest trade event of its kind. It is set to attract more than 1,800 exhibitors around the world and will have a new expanded outdoor and sports items section.
