US services provider, Welcom, recently announced the opening of its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong to serve the needs of its regional customers.

 

The Founder and President of Welcom, Steve Cook, explained the choice of Hong Kong for its regional base.  "We believe that Asia offers an important growth opportunity for the company, especially in the light of fast growing economies such as China. Hong Kong offers all the right ingredients for us to grow our business in China and support our customers across Asia - such as a business-conducive environment, modern telecommunications facilities, free flow of information and a large pool of business services," he said.

 

Headquartered in Texas, Welcom was founded in 1983. Over the years it has developed expertise in providing software for a wide spectrum of industries, including aerospace and defence, energy, oil and gas, utilities and engineering. The company has clients in over 40 countries.

 

Welcom is establishing a core team of marketing and technical expertise in Hong Kong to support its channel partners in over 13 countries, covering Pakistan to Japan. It also has future plans to expand the Hong Kong office in order to support the distributors in the region.

 

Superb infrastructure and gateway to China

 

Vice President of Welcom Asia-Pacific, Dane Knight, said, "Asia offers key growth opportunities driven by fast growing economies and a thirst for quality technical expertise in the portfolio project management arena. Hong Kong has superb infrastructure and is ideally located as a gateway to China and within easy reach of the rest of Asia. The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong,  John Rutherford, said IT companies in Hong Kong can leverage on the city's experience in the commercialisation of technologies; the large pool of potential customers represented by the largest number of regional headquarter operations in Asia and Hong Kong's position as a key entry point into the mainland.
