| CEO of V-Logic Peter Levesque says Hong Kong's legal and financial systems are geared towards business |
|
Hong Kong is the perfect logistics hub for the Asia Pacific, according to founder and chief executive officer of V-Logic, Peter Levesque.
"Hong Kong offers tremendous value. We had a lot of choices for the location of our Asia Pacific distribution centre, but Hong Kong came out on top," said Mr Levesque. "Hong Kong's infrastructure, banking system and laws are really geared towards business. We can do things here that other places in this region can't!
"Hong Kong's geographic relationship to China and reputation as a good place to do business give it the edge. It also offers free port status. You can move things in and out with virtually no government or regulatory interference, which is important in the logistics business."
Hong Kong partner
V-Logic was founded in May 2000 with the aim of providing US companies access to the Asia Pacific marketplace by a unique system of distributing products directly from the manufacturing point of origin. The company was started when Peter Levesque and his partners formed a business plan while studying at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. They received funding by a US venture capital firm, and today, one of the major investors in the company is Modern Terminals Ltd, situated at Kwai Chung Container Port.
"V-Logic is an interesting example of a small business hooking up with a major Hong Kong business in order to create something a little bit different in the logistics area," said Mr Levesque, whose key clients include Yum! International (KFC and Pizza Hut) and Warner Bros.
"We distribute equipment to stores as soon as they open, and offer specialised DVD distribution for example. Our advantage is that we handle a wide variety of products, from Intel Pentium chips to 2,000 pound pizza ovens. The fact that we aren't tied to just one commodity gives us an advantage in the marketplace."
