New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) will set up the first ever New Zealand Concept Centre in Hong Kong later this year.

The 6,800 sq ft property located in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong's busiest thoroughfare, will be a showcase for New Zealand food and beverage retail products, tourism, education, art and design and other businesses.

Called "New Zealand Focus", it is the first of a number of initiatives NZTE has planned in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland to help New Zealand businesses take advantage of export opportunities in North Asia, said NZTE chief executive Tim Gibson.

"New Zealand Focus will give exporters the ability to test their products and learn more about the market before committing to an export drive," said Mr Gibson.

"We also anticipate a lot of foot traffic from shoppers which will help build demand for New Zealand products in Hong Kong and also in China, given that more than one million people from the mainland visit Hong Kong each month."

Kiwi exporters Fisher & Paykel Appliances and New Zealand Natural Ice-Cream will have standalone operations in the new centre.

Fisher & Paykel general manager, global sales & marketing, Malcolm Harris said New Zealand Focus offers a variation from the traditional retail environment. "There are significant growth opportunities in Northern Asia and we view this initiative as key in out expansion strategy into other markets, through the development of relationships with Hong Kong based property developers," added Mr Harris.

New Zealand Natural chief executive Stewart Alexander said the new centre would provide the company with excellent brand exposure as well as the opportunity to showcase its products to Hong Kong consumers.
