The new store will be operated by Hong Kong BreadTalk Limited, a joint venture between Singapore-based BreadTalk Group Limited and its Hong Kong business partner, Derek Liu Kit-Man. Mr Liu is also the President of a Japanese restaurant chain in Hong Kong, Watami (China) Company Limited. Mr Liu said: "We see a lot of potential for growth for BreadTalk in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong consumers are receptive to new products and services. Their growing health-awareness has also created an increased demand for fresh, hygienic and healthy food. This fits perfectly with BreadTalk's emphasis on offering creative and healthy products to customers." According to Mr Liu, the company plans to open three to four shops by the end of this year. During the next three to five years, another 15-20 outlets are planned in Hong Kong and Macau. Create brand awareness The Group Managing Director of BreadTalk, George Quek, said: "The launch in Hong Kong will play a strategic role in our overall business development in the region. The Hong Kong market is watched closely by Chinese mainland consumers. Our presence in Hong Kong will help create higher brand awareness in the mainland - one of our key target markets." Since its opening in Singapore in 2000, BreadTalk has brought the innovative concept of boutique bakeries to the industry. Its trademark open kitchen allows customers to view the entire baking process from raw ingredients to finished products, providing the assurance of freshly-baked products all day long. The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, John Rutherford, said BreadTalk's ambitious growth plans for Hong Kong will further strengthen the city's leading position as the gourmet paradise in Asia.
