| Events hub draws in crowds this summer ( 01/06/2005 ) | |||||||||
Over 22,000 "Lions" will roar into Hong Kong for the Lions Clubs International Convention held from June 27-July 1 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is set to be Hong Kong's single largest convention to date when the Lions and their families who come from more than 100 countries meet, network and enjoy all that Hong Kong has to offer. According to Lions Clubs International president Clement F. Kusiak, Hong Kong had proved to be a popular venue among Lions around the world as many members still remember the outstanding convention held in Hong Kong in 1992. Venue for high profile conference Hong Kong is also the venue selected by the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) to hold their business conference, the 38th International General Meeting (June 13-14). Over 50 high profile figures such as China's vice premier Madam Wu Yi and WTO's director-general Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi and group chairman of HSBC Holdings plc Sir John Bond are expected to attend together with over 500 CEOs. The conference serves as a gathering of business leaders in preparation for the next WTO ministerial meeting to be held in Hong Kong in December. Three big trade fairs and two new fairs will be held during this period. The Licensing Show (5-7 July), Summer Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware and Toys (5-8 July) and Fashion Week Spring/Summer (12-15 July). Summer sourcing Drawing on the success of last year's debut, the second edition of the Summer Sourcing Show for Gifts, Houseware and Toys is expected to attract more than 1,200 dealers in the related sectors. As a concurrent event, the Hong Kong Licensing Show will hold great opportunities for business people in the licensing business to get the latest market information. The two new fairs on Hong Kong's trade fair calendar include the Hospitality Design Asia (June 23-24) and the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attraction Asian Expo (IAAPA) held from July 12-15. The former fair is for manufacturers and suppliers of the hospitality industry ranging from wall covering and carpet and flooring to signage lighting and finishes. The IAAPA Fair will feature more than 120 exhibitors and the conference offers attendees the latest information on current trends and new products and services in the tourism industry.
