| Washington-based law firm opens to serve regional needs ( 01/10/2005 ) | |||||||||
Founded in 1904, Hogan & Hartson L.L.P. is the oldest and largest law firm based in Washington, D.C. Today it has over 1,000 lawyers in 23 offices around the world, serving clients in all legal disciplines. With the addition of its Hong Kong office, the firm now has more than 20 lawyers and legal professionals in China and a team of more than 50 working on China-related projects. "Opening an office in Hong Kong is part of our firm's strategic growth plans in China, which complements our strong teams in Beijing and Shanghai," commented Jun Wei, co-managing partner of the firm's China offices and the Hogan & Hartson's chief representative in Beijing. "Our new office in Hong Kong will allow us to better serve China-based clients in their transactional projects that often involve parties and financing needs in Hong Kong. It also will facilitate our work with Hong Kong-based clients throughout the region." Cross border business needs "Our new office in Hong Kong demonstrates a deep commitment to our firm's clients with cross-border business needs in Asia," said Steven Robinson, co-managing partner of Hogan & Hartson's China offices and chief representative of its Shanghai office. "Our China team is already very highly-qualified and experienced in sophisticated cross-border transactions and financing, and these additions make us even stronger." At its opening ceremony, the Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mike Rowse, said Hong Kong is known as the hub of legal services in Asia with over 690 local solicitor firms and 34 foreign law firms and about 6,100 professionals. "The increasing interest of Chinese enterprises to expand and seek listings outside of the mainland creates a demand for legal services in Hong Kong, the natural springboard for them to go overseas. The addition of Hogan & Hartson to our legal services sector will certainly strengthen our world-class offering to companies in the region," added Mr Rowse. Related links | |||||||||
