Fast Retailing Co, Ltd, the world's seventh leading casual wear company, announced that Japan's number one casual apparel brand, UNIQLO is launching its first flagship store in Hong Kong.

Tadashi Yanai, chairman and CEO of Fast Retailing Co, Ltd, and Pan Ning, Managing Director of UNIQLO Hong Kong, Ltd said that they were excited to enter the active and sophisticated Hong Kong market.

"We are confident that the people of Hong Kong will warmly welcome the UNIQLO shopping experience and the high quality and reasonable price of UNIQLO clothing. Launching our first ever store in the Hong Kong market is an important step in continuing our mission to inspire the world to dress casual," said Mr Yanai.

With the 16,000 sq ft store located in Tsim Sha Tsui, UNIQLO will introduce its wide range of products with almost 500 reasonably-priced casual wear items for men, women and children, offering a choice of more than 30 colours for each core item product.

Mr Pan commented: "With good customer service offered and our wide variety of casual clothing for every member of the family, at prices that the family will appreciate, we expect strong expansion in the Hong Kong market and look forward to expanding our retail position in the future."

The associate director-general of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong,  Simon Galpin, said UNIQLO's debut showed confidence in the Hong Kong market.

"Its expansion in Hong Kong will not only bring economic benefits through creating jobs for our people but also enhance the existing portfolio of our retail sector. We believe the investment by UNIQLO in Hong Kong will send positive messages to overseas investors who are keen in entering Hong Kong and the regional market."

UNIQLO, Japan's No. 1 apparel brand, is a brand of Fast Retailing Co, Ltd, the seventh largest apparel company in the world. Since the opening of its first shop in Hiroshima in 1984, UNIQLO has grown to almost 700 stores across Japan, China and the United Kingdom. In fall 2005, UNIQLO opened its first store in Hong Kong, the United States and Korea.
