Monster Cable ("Monster"), the world's leading manufacturer of A/V cables and power conditioning products, has announced the opening of a new Hong Kong office. It will serve as the headquarters for Monster's sourcing, product design, sales and marketing support in the Asia-Pacific region. The operation will eventually be expanded to include distribution and logistics.

Noel Lee, the "Head Monster", said: "Hong Kong is the best location to base and develop our operation in this region. This city is an ideal place to support our growth and strategic initiatives."

Leo Lin, vice president of Asia Pacific business development, said Hong Kong has the advantages of superior logistics and solid infrastructure.

"Here, it is easier to find talent who can communicate well with our US headquarters, understand Western work requirements and styles and, at the same time, know culturally how to interface with suppliers and customers. Hong Kong's proximity to the vast manufacturing base in China, along with its efficient economy and low tax structure, are also big pluses for us."

Strengthen Asia-Pacific ties

The opening of Monster's Hong Kong office is a major step in the company's effort to further strengthen its ties with Asia-Pacific.

The Acting director-general of investment promotion at Invest Hong Kong, John Rutherford, welcomed Monster to join the over 6,200 overseas and Chinese mainland companies in Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong's strategic location as the business hub of Asia makes it an excellent base for companies to extend their business horizon to the region. Monster's decision supports our view that Hong Kong is the preferred location for international businesses to manage their regional operations," said Mr Rutherford.

Monster is known to audio, video, car, photo, computer, movie and music enthusiasts as the company that makes their products work better. Starting in a San Francisco garage 25 years ago, Noel Lee, the Head Monster, created the first Monster Cable to get better sound from stereo speakers. He developed a following with recording engineers and professional musicians; today, many CDs are mixed and mastered in studios wired with Monster Cable and powered by Monster Power.
