| Confidence high with trade fairs off to a flying start ( 01/02/2006 ) | |||||||||
Exhibitors at the two important garment trade fairs, which ran concurrently from January 17 - 20 - Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2006 and World Boutique - surged by 20 per cent. With 1,300 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions, this amounted to Asia's largest garment fair and the world's No. 2. Buyers from around the world including Japan's Mitsukoshi department store, France's Morgan, Boutique Marie Claire from Canada, Italy's Lotto Sport Italia Spa and China's Li Ning, visited these garment fairs to source for high end brands and well made garments. "This further establishes Hong Kong's position as the world's largest fashion sourcing base," said Benjamin Chau, director, business units of the Trade Development Council (TDC), the organiser of these trade fairs. Growth fuels optimism
Looking ahead, Hong Kong's trade fair schedule for the first quarter of 2006 is action packed. March sees two big fairs to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The International Jewellery Fair and the International Film & TV Mart (FILMART) are expected to draw in exhibitors and buyers from around the world. In the same month, the newly launched AsiaWorld-Expo will host the Hong Kong Watch, Clock, Optical and Accessories fair followed by Prime Source. Visiting trade fairs in Hong Kong remains one of the most successful ways to see what the Chinese mainland and Asia-Pacific have to offer. In the past two years, mainland buyers and exhibitors at TDC organised fairs have increased by 11 per cent and 16 per cent respectively, reinforcing Hong Kong as an international trade fair capital.
